Branchville Lady Jackets

fall in tournament final

BYRD - The Branchville softball team fell 14-2 in the championship game to host Woodland in the preseason WHS Lady Wolverines Fast-Pitch Softball Round Robin tournament this past weekend.

After going 3-2 in pool play to reach the tournament title game, the Lady Jackets were no match for junior pitcher Brianna Wilson of Woodland. Wilson was outstanding as she led Woodland to the championship win.

Lady Jackets hit three home runs on the weekend, including one each by Destyne Paul, Faith Hughes and Anslee McAlhany. Paul and McAlhany were named to the all-tournament team.

The Lady Jackets start regular-season play on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Edisto.

LEXINGTON - The Saints lost 12-6 to the Cobras on Sunday in the Red Bank Invitational at White Knoll High School.

Leading hitters for CCHS:  Andrew Isgett, 3-for-4, 2 runs; Noah Bearden, 1-3; Alex Tapia, 1-3, run; Dalton Crider, 1-2, 2 RBI; Chase Elders, 1-3, run.

Tapia was named to the All-Academic RBI Tournament Team, while Isgett and Simien Chestnut were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Saints begin Region 5-2A play on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Barnwell.

COLUMBIA - The Orangeburg-Wilkinson Bruins got their season started with a win on the road on Monday, taking a 24-8 victory at Columbia High School.

Savon Stokes pitched 3 innings for O-W in the win.

Leading hitters for O-W: Reginald Jamison, 4-for-4, 3 runs, 5 RBI; Esa Terry, 2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI; Nicholas Lawson, 2-for-3, 2 runs, 5 RBI; Seve Mack, 2-for-4, 3 runs, 2 RBI.

Bruins are 1-0, will host Pelion on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in another non-region game.

Bethune Bowman 3

NORTH - Andrew Miller pitched 5 innings, striking out 6 and allowing just one run to pick up the win for the North Eagles in Monday's season-opener against Bethune-Bowman.

Doug Cook finished the game striking out 5 Mohawks batters.

Leading hitters for North were:  Casey Robinson, 1-for-3, 3 RBI; Tristen Lindsey, 1-for-3, 2 RBI; Jeffrey Scott, 1-for-3, RBI; Jarett Chavis, 1-for-2.

North is (1-0) on the season and will host Estill on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.


Denmark-Olar 4

Ridge Spring-Monetta 2

DENMARK - O'Nell Clark had a clutch second half goal to put the Vikings back up by a goal after two Ridge Spring-Monetta goals in a 4-2 win by Denmark-Olar on Monday in Region 3A play.

Daveon scored 2 early goals for Denmark-Olar in the win.

Dentel Nelson added a late goal near the final 6 minutes to give the Vikings a 2-goal win.

Zyviear Jamison had 4 saves for the Vikings, while Trayveyon Pernell had 8 saves.

Denmark-Olar (1-1 record, 1-0 in region) play on Thursday at Keenan at 6:30 p.m.

SUMMERTON - The JV Saints pushed their record to 2-0 with a home win against the JV Raiders on Friday.

Blane Kennard picked up the win, pitching 4 innings with 6 strikeouts and a walk. T.J. Curlee pitched 2 innings in relief, with 1 strikeout.

Brantley Hodge led the Saints at the plate, going 3-for-4. Kennard went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Christian Higbe went 2-for-3.
