Claflin Indoor Track &

Field teams back in action

The Claflin University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams return to action on Friday, Jan. 12 at the HBCU Battle and Expo at the New York Armory in New York, N.Y. 

The meet, the first of the New Year for both Panthers teams, will feature teams from Division II conferences, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).  Division I competitors will hail from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).  Allen University, who competes in NAIA, will also compete in the competition that gets underway with the field events at 12 noon.  Running events are set to pop-off at 1 p.m.

In addition to Claflin, schools on the SIAC schools scheduled to compete include, Benedict College, Central State University, Kentucky State University, and Morehouse College. Competing from the CIAA are Bowie State, Lincoln University, Livingston College, Virginia State University and Virginia Union University. 

The Division I institutions scheduled to compete are Bethune-Cookman University, Coppin State University, Delaware State University, Hampton University, Howard University, Morgan State University, Norfolk State University and University of Maryland Eastern Shore out the MEAC and Southern University and A&M College and Texas Southern University out of the SWAC.

A HBCU College Fair will also be held in conjunction with the meet.

The Panthers will return to action on Monday, Jan. 15 at the Mondo HBCU Classic in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Bamberg-Ehrhardt takes

win against Edisto 

BAMBERG - The Red Raiders took a 67-6 win against Edisto at home on Thursday.

B-E, 28-3 overall now, got wins from all three defending state champions (KeSean Brown, James Gainyard and Kohl Gagum).

Edisto's lone win came by pin in the 126-pound weight class as 2-time state qualifier Brendan Sanford won.

B-E wrestles again on Saturday in the King's Mountain Invitational at King's Mountain High School in N.C.

JV GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lake Marion 36

Hanahan 18

The JV Lady Gators took a win against Hanahan on Wednesday.

Top scorers for Lake Marion were Jailyn Bryant with 15 points and Yasmine Richardson with 11 points.

The next game for the JV Lady Gators (3-2) is Friday at 4:30 p.m. at home against Manning.

O-W defeated the Chapin Eagles on Thursday, with Rodney Gadson scoring 12 points, while Kendall Huggins and Jaheim Middleton each added 4 points a piece.

Edisto topped B-C on Thursday night.

MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL

Howard Middle School took a win against North on Wednesday, with Jalen Corbett scoring 11 points and Keondre Dickson scoring 9 points.

Howard plays next on Wednesday at Bowman Middle School.

MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL

Felton Lab 37

Calhoun County 30

Felton Laboratory Charter School girls basketball team took a home win against Calhoun County Middle School on Thursday.

For Felton Lab, Stephany Brailey scored 18 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists, while Trinity Winningham scored 10 points, Journi Hillard scored 7 and grabbed 5 rebounds, Nia Lambright had 3 assists.

Felton plays again on Wednesday at home against North at 6 p.m.

Felton Laboratory Charter School took a girls basketball win against Edisto Middle School on Wednesday, 36-17.

Stephany Brailey scored 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds and handed out 4 assists to lead Felton, while Trinity Winningham scored 10 points and added 6 rebounds.

Also helping Felton was Journi Hillard with 6 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, Brevie Holiday with 5 rebounds, and Nia Lambright with 4 rebounds.
