Claflin University men’s track athletes Shaquille Shaw and Odou Hazel have qualified for the 2017 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships scheduled for May 25-27 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
The championships, which are co-hosted by the University of Tampa and IMG Academy, will feature individuals and teams from Division II institutions with the Top 20 times in their respective event.
Shaw, a 6-0, 172, sophomore from Kingston, Jamaica, qualified for the meet with the eighth fastest time in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking a 14.16.
Hazel, a 5-9, 160, sophomore out of Curepe, Trinidad, ran a 47.17 in the 400 meters to enter the championships with the 12th fastest time.
Competition gets underway May 25 at 10:30 a.m. with the decathlon. Shaw will compete in the preliminaries on May 26 at 6:40 p.m., while Hazel will run on day one in the preliminaries at 6:40 p.m. If both athletes advance, they will compete on Saturday at 6:05 and 6:25 p.m., respectively.
