Kentucky State 74, Claflin 62 (Women)

FRANKFURT, Ky. - Coming off a 60-59 defeat to the Lane College Lady Dragons, the Lady Panthers were looking to get back on the winning trek against the Lady Thorobrettes.

Instead, Kentucky State rode the hot shooting of Sharnita Lloyd who blistered the nets for a game-high 28 points to defeat Claflin.

Style Harper added 12 points, as Ikiah Palmer finished the evening with 10 points for the for the Lady Thorobrettes, who added to their halftime eight point lead by going up by as many as 18 points late in the second with 5:03 remaining.

Tylesha Brown and Tayala Robinson led Claflin (3-11, 2-2) with 17 points each.

The first half lasted 65 minutes as 28 fouls were whistled; 13 against Claflin and 15 against the home team. The half was also marred with 27 total turnovers, 13 for Claflin and 14 for Kentucky State.

Even though the Lady Thorobrettes (5-6, 2-2) were saddled with foul trouble, they held the lead for the entire half. The largest lead of the half was eight points with 2:47 left in the first half.

The Lady Panthers return to the friendly confines of Tullis Arena Monday with a 5:30 p.m. match-up with Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member Tuskegee Univeristy.


North 44, Hunter-Kinard-Tyler 36

NORTH - Zhanae Nimmons scored 21 points and Kersten Jamison added 12 to lead the Lady Eagles Thursday.

North (3-6, 3-2) travels to North Augusta today to face Fox Creek.

Laurence Manning 39, Holly Hill Academy 35

HOLLY HILL - Kayla Crider scored eight points and Hunter Paramore added seven in a losing effort for the Raiders Thursday.

HHA (6-7) travels to South Aiken Baptist Christian today.


Laurence Manning 54, Holly Hill Academy 45

HOLLY HILL - Brian Brunson scored 10 points in a loss for the Raiders Thursday.

HHA (5-8) travels to South Aiken Baptist Christian today.


Holly Hill Academy 33, Laurence Manning 23

HOLLY HILL - Abbot Hutto scored 14 points and Ashley Crider added 12 to lead the JV Lady Raiders Thursday.

HHA (8-2) travels to South Aiken Baptist Christian today.

HOLLY HILL - HHA (4-6) travels to South Aiken Baptist Christian today.


Clark 63, Felton 52

Zion Utsey scored 23 points and Earl Clark and Bryce Rivers each finished with 10 points to lead Clark Thursday.

Clark (5-2) travels to Scott’s Branch Middle School on Monday for a 6 p.m. game.

Holly Hill-Roberts 55, Howard 27

HOLLY HILL - Keyshawn Aiken scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Vavondre Robinson had 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals for Holly Hill-Roberts Thursday.

HH-R (8-0) plays host to St. Matthews Monday.


Clark 37, Felton 6

Autherey Dantzler had 10 points as Clark improved to 6-0 on the season Thursday.

Orangeburg Prep 17, Heathwood Hall 11

Brooke Nettles scored eight points and Morgan Baltgzegar had five as the B-team Lady Indians improved to 5-1 on the season Thursday.

OPS plays host to Laurence Manning Monday starting at 5 p.m.


Howard’s Pough selected to East-West All-Star Game

Orangeburg native and Howard University All-America outside linebacker Keith Pough, has accepted an invitation to play in the 88th East-West Shrine Game set for Jan. 19 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year joins a West roster coached by former NFL head coach Leeman Bennett and includes University of South Carolina linebacker DeVonte Holloman.

The East Roster includes South Carolina offensive lineman T.J. Johnson and defensive lineman Devin Taylor and Clemson cornerback Xavier Bruce and safety Rashard Hall. Former NFL head coach Jerry Glanville will serve as East head coach.

The game can be seen on the NFL Network (Channel 498 on Digital Time Warner Cable, Channel 154 on The Dish Network and Channel 212 on DirecTV).
