S.C. Class 3A Championship: Hartsville routs Union County 62-27

COLUMBIA — Trey Rogers ran for 110 yards and scored five rushing touchdowns and Trey Samuel added 274 yards rushing and two scores as Hartsville defeated Union County 62-27 in the Class 3A state championship Saturday night.

Rogers had scoring runs of 2, 6, 1, 1 and 10 yards while Samuel scored on runs of 55 and 14 yards to give the Red Foxes (15-0) their first state championship since 1988.

Hartsville finished with 452 yards rushing. The Red Foxes scored on their six first-half possessions and added a 91-yard interception return for a score by Fisher Payne with 10 seconds remaining in the first half to lead 48-20 at the break.

Keiston Smith threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 102 yards and touchdowns of 11 and 9 yards for Union County (9-6). The Yellow Jackets won four playoff games on the road before falling in the final.

S.C. Class 4A Division I Championship: Gaffney 34, Dutch Fork 14

COLUMBIA — Shaq Davidson rushed for two touchdowns and threw for two more to lead Gaffney to its record 16th state championship with a 34-14 victory over Dutch Fork in the Class 4A Division I title game Saturday.

The championship was the Indians’ first since 2006.

Davidson opened the scoring with a 50-yard run on Gaffney’s third offensive play. He added a 19-yard run later in the first quarter as the Indians (12-3) scored 17 first-quarter points. He finished with 105 yards rushing and was 7 of 10 for 153 yards with scoring passes of 44 yards to O’Bryant Davidson and 38 yards to Eddie Studyvance.

Trey Gregg ran for 148 yards and a touchdown for Dutch Fork (11-4). The Silver Foxes were making their first championship game appearance and had four turnovers, all in the first half when Gaffney jumped to a 24-7 lead.

S.C. Class 4A Division II Championship: Greenwood 31, Northwestern 24, OT

COLUMBIA — Octavious Morgan scored on a 2-yard run in overtime as Greenwood won the Class 4A Division II state championship with a 31-24 victory over Northwestern on Saturday.

Morgan scored on fourth down for the Eagles (15-0) on the opening possession in overtime. Northwestern was unable to move the ball when it took over at the 10-yard line and its fourth-down pass fell incomplete.

Lathomas Long forced the overtime when he converted a two-point conversion with a minute remaining for the Trojans (12-3), after Dupree Hart had scored on a 7-yard pass from Mason Rudolph.

Evin Sims rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns and Morgan added 85 yards and two scores as Greenwood won its first state championship since 2006. It lost in the finals the last two years

Rudolph completed 24 of 37 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown in the losing effort.
