Just another game for Bruinettes star

For Nabresha Hughes, Saturday's game was just another game.

Forget that the senior Bruinettes guard played for Calhoun County just a couple of years ago. Forget her familiarity with the program. Forget it all.

Hughes came out with one thing in mind: getting a win for Orangeburg-Wilkinson.

"I just came out and played hard," Hughes said. "I knew that this was my old team that I used to play for. So, I just wanted to come out and play hard."

And play hard she did. Hughes ended the first half leading the team in scoring with 17 points. Hughes would score 19 points in three quarters as Staley opted to keep her on the bench in the fourth quarter.

While it would seem like a natural instinct to want to have a statement game against one's former team, Hughes admit that Saturday wasn't circled on her calendar. In fact, Saturday's game was just another step towards her team's ultimate goal. However, there's still work to be done.

"We haven't reached the level of hunger that we need to reach," Hughes said. "Although we lost in the state championship last year, we have to be hungrier."

Meet Tashombe Riley

If you haven't heard the name Tashome Riley, there is a pretty good chance you will.  The O-W standout dominated the first half against the Saints by scoring 16 of his game-high 22 points.

The talent that Riley displayed Saturday against Calhoun County is just part of the reason that teams like South Carolina and Temple are interested in him. It's also the reason that Mercer, Augusta State, UNC-Wilmington and a few other schools have already offered him.

It's still early. So, there's a pretty good chance that Riley will see more offers come his way. But for now, he only wants one thing. That one thing is to finish this season with a state title.
