With the region tournaments now in the books, teams from The T&D Region will now set their sights on a SCISA state title.

Nine teams will make their way to Sumter in hopes of earning the right to be called champion in the 2013 SCISA state championship tournament.

Among those teams eyeing a title is the Orangeburg Prep girls squad. After clinching the Region 3-AAA tournament title, the Lady Indians, seeded fourth in the upper bracket, will begin play at 6:30 p.m. Friday when they face Porter-Gaud. Should they defeat the Cyclones, OPS earns the right to face the upper bracket’s top seed, Northwood Academy.

The Orangeburg Prep boys were slotted as the upper bracket’s sixth seed, pitting them against Pinewood Prep at Porter-Gaud’s gym on Saturday at 4 p.m. The winner of that game will face second-seeded Augusta Christian.

Calhoun Academy opens play in the Class 2-A girls’ upper bracket as a number four seed. They face Beaufort Academy on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Sumter Civic Center. Prior to that game, sixth-seeded Dorchester Academy takes on Pee Dee Academy at 3:30 p.m. In the lower bracket, sixth-seeded Holly Hill Academy opens state tournament play at Heathwood Hall’s gym, where HHA will battle Spartanburg Day at 5 p.m. on Friday.

In the boys bracket for Class 2-A, fourth-seeded Dorchester goes toe to toe with Spartanburg Day on Saturday at noon at the Sumter Civic Center. HHA, the sixth seed in the lower bracket, goes up against Marlboro at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, while eighth-seeded Calhoun Academy takes on Spartanburg Christian on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Heathwood Hall’s gym.

Andrew Jackson is The T&D Region’s lone representative in Class 1-A. The third-seeded Lady Confederates will play against Laurens Academy on Friday at Wilson Hall beginning at 6:30 p.m.
