Former Bamberg-Ehrhardt standout Zack Godley is being looked at as a leader for the University of Tennessee baseball team in the 2013 season.
During the team’s media day Saturday, Godley said he is ready for the role. And he would prefer to lead by example.
“I hope to keep doing what I have always done and lead by example,” Godley said. “I hope these guys will just follow — hopefully what I can do — and I just hope to keep doing good things.”
Godley is one of just two seniors on the Volunteers heading into the season. The 6-foot-3, 245-pounder posted a 4-2 record and 3.50 ERA last season. He was named an alternate on the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team in the summer. He wound up appearing in four games for the team, posting a 1-0 record with a 1.50 ERA.
Despite the Volunteers’ youth, Godley said he has high hopes heading into the season.
“Expectations are always high,” he said. “I think we are going to have a lot of good things to come. These guys are young, but I think they’re going to show we can play with anyone and I’m excited about this.”
