CORDOVA — Tyrell Maxwell’s 29-yard touchdown run with 6:07 left in the fourth quarter helped the Cougars remain perfect in Region 5-AA play Friday.

Edisto (3-4, 2-0) took a 20-0 lead in the first half. Maxwell had two touchdown passes of 24 yards to Quadrey Simmons and 5 yards to Devin Fogle and Keyonte Furtick had a 3-yard scoring run followed by a 2-point conversion.

Barnwell cut the deficit to 20-7 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Warhorses got a safety off a botched punt and added a 49-yard touchdown and 2-point conversion to close the gap to 20-17.

Barnwell tied the game on a 23-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, setting the stage for Maxwell’s heroics.

Maxwell, the reigning Orangeburg Touchdown Club Offensive Player of the Week, had 17 carries for 157 yards and completed 10-of-16 passes for 111 yards.

Defensively, Tyrell Hickson led Edisto with 10 tackles, Dalton Murphy had seven, Jabarri Ryant Michael Buck each finished with five and Dominique Hamilton and Ricky Johnson each had three.

Edisto will play host to Silver Bluff next week with first place in Region 5-AA on the line.
