SUMMERTON — Clarendon Hall got a big region win Friday night on Homecoming by a score of 50-34 over Richard Winn in a great game that wasn’t decided until the final minutes.
Richard Winn took an early lead in the 1st quarter and looked in control early. Tilton McCrea returned a punt 58 yards for at touchdown in the 2nd quarter to get the Saints on the board and tie the score at 8. The Eagles scored twice more before half with the Saints answering with touchdown runs by McCrea and Daniel Pappas. With the score tied at 20 with under a minute left in the half, the Saints took over on their own five after an Eagle punt. The Saints went 95 yards in 5 plays highlighted by McCrea 75 yard run and a Gavin Allan 5 yard TD run with time running out in the half. The Saints led 26-20 at halftime.
In the 3rd quarter, the Saints kept the momentum by getting a big stop on defense, and then scoring on the 1st play from scrimmage on a 65 yard run by Dustin Way. But the Eagles put together a 14 play drive, scoring to cut the lead to 8, then recovered a Saint fumble returning it 80 yards to tie the score at 34. Early in the 4th quarter, the Saints took the lead for good on a Pappas touchdown run, set up by a 35 yard run by Wes Keller and a half-back pass from McCrae to Keller down to the 5 yard line. The Saints defense held, but the offense could not capitalize. But a McCrea punt to the 1 yard line was huge. On 3rd and long, with pressure from McCrae, the Eagle quarterback threw a deep pass from his own endzone that was picked off by Keller and returned to the five. Dustin Way punched it in from the 2 to make the score 50-34 with under a minute left. Ryan Morris then got an interception to allow the Saints to run out the clock.
For the Saints, Tilton McCrae rushed 13 times for 170 yards and a touchdown and had 159 yards in kick returns and a touchdown. Daniel Pappas rushed 6 times for 113 yards and two touchdowns and added two 2pt conversion runs and another catch. Dustin Way rushed 4 times for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns and added a 2pt conversion and went 1 for 2 passing for 17 yards. Gavin Allan rushed 6 times for 18 yards and a touchdown. Wes Keller rushed 8 times for 53 yards, went 2 for 5 passing, and had a 14 yard reception as well.
On defense, the Saints were led by Gavin Allan with 11 tackles, Daniel Pappas with 10, and Matthew Corbett with 10. Key Evans, Wes Keller, Cody Armstrong, and Mac Davis each added 9 tackles. Evans and Corbett each had a sack. Wes Keller and Ryan Morris each had an interception and Davis and Corbett each had a fumble recovery.
