Claflin Basketball Claflin 80, Paine 70 The Claflin Panthers seem to be peaking at the right time, as they avenged an early season and Homecoming loss to the Lions of Paine College, 80-70. The second half had one tie at 48-48 with 13:21 left. But after a time out the Panthers went on an 8-0 run to lead 56-48 with 11:50 left to play. The Lions regained the lead 60-59 with an 11-3 run. That is when Anthony Pigram, Edward Green, and Eric Salley went to work on the perimeter to regain the lead for the Panthers, 68-60, at the 5:44 mark in the contest.

DeMars to retire as Gamecock tennis coach
COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina head men’s tennis coach Kent DeMars announced today that he will retire at the conclusion of the 2009-10 season. In his 37th season as a collegiate head coach, DeMars will leave the University after 26 seasons at the helm of a Gamecock program that he has led to 18 NCAA Tournaments and six conference championships.

In the process, the four-star Under Armour All-American offensive tackle, and one-time USC commitment, managed to alienate more than a few Gamecocks’ fans.
