BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Claflin University women's volleyball team will enter the 2017 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championships as the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Division and will face LeMoyne Owen College, who is the No. 1 seed in the Western Division in the opening round of the championships.

Play is scheduled for Wednesday-Friday, Nov. 15-17 at the Birmingham (Ala.) Crossplex.

First serve for the Claflin-LeMoyne match is set for 2 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday.

Heading into tournament play, Claflin graduate transfer Diara Lewis was named to the 2017 SIAC Second Team All-Conference.

The double-elimination tournament will culminate with the championship match on Friday at 3 p.m., with an if-necessary game at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Claflin finished the regular season with a 7-19 overall record and 7-10 in the SIAC.

This is the first time in three seasons the Lady Panthers will enter the tournament without the No. 1 seed in the East.

Claflin will play the second match of the tournament on Wednesday. If the Lady Panthers advance, they will face the winner of the Albany State-Lane match on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

The championships get underway on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. with the Clark Atlanta-Tuskegee and Benedict Kentucky State matches.

In the event Claflin loses its first match, the Lady Panthers will face the loser of the Albany State-Lane match at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
