The Claflin University softball team will look to get back to winning ways this weekend when they host Fort Valley state University (FVSU) in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) three-game series.
The series gets underway Friday with a single game at 5 p.m. The teams will then meet in a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. with the second game following approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of the first.
The Lady Panthers, who brings a 14-24 overall and 6-4 SIAC record, are coming off a doubleheader loss to #2 ranked University of North Georgia on Wednesday, 10-0 and 9-1.
On the season, the Lady Panthers have five players batting over .300 led by Kayla Cato at .373. Cato also has a team-leading 44 hits including nine homeruns and runs with 36.
LaKaylin Lee is batting .356, Tiaria Norman is batting .343, and Chelise Morman is batting .311 to round out the 300 hitters.
Norman is leading Claflin pitching staff with a 9-12 record.
As a team the Lady Panthers are batting .299.
FVSU comes into the weekend with a 15-9 overall and 5-5 in the SIAC.
The Lady Wildcats defeated Voorhees College 12-1, on March 31 to pick up their ninth straight victory.
Courtney Walker finished the game with six strikeouts and no hits.
On the season, Walker leads the team in batting and hitting, averaging .415 with 27 hits.
Walker also leads the team on the mound with a 15-8 record.
After this weekend’s series, Claflin will close-out his home season next weekend, Saturday-Sunday, Apr. 14-15, against Clark Atlanta University.
