The Claflin University men’s basketball team will close out its regular season portion against Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division teams at home on Saturday (Jan. 6) against Tuskegee University at 3:30 p.m. inside the Tullis Arena.
The contest will follow the women’s game at approximately 3:30 p.m. It will also be Community/Youth Day.
Claflin, on a 14-game win streak, brings an impressive 15-1 overall record into the contest. The Panthers are perfect in the SIAC at 8-0, including 6-0 against teams from the West.
Claflin is coming off its biggest offensive output of the season on Thursday night, a 97-91 home win over Miles College. The 97 points surpassed the Panthers' previous high of 91 against Auburn University at Montgomery (Ala.) in the season-opener.
The 14 three-pointers by Claflin against Miles was also a season-best, five short of the league high of 19, registered by Clark Atlanta against Rollins College (Nov. 10, 2017). Benjamin “Tre” Williams and Tondric Johnson played a significant role in the Panthers three-point shooting, connecting on five treys apiece.
The Miles game also featured season-highs for redshirt junior center Austin Lawton in scoring with 22 points to go along with 14 rebounds. He also produced four blocked shots, giving him a league-leading 30 blocks for this season.
Tuskegee enters the league match-up against Claflin with just one victory under its belt in 12 games. The Golden Tigers' lone win was a 72-66 decision over Spring Hill College, which snapped a seven-game losing streak.
ALTERED FAN ENTRANCE
Fans are reminded that during construction of the new Health and Wellness Center, Claflin University will modify the entrance to Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Physical Education Center. Entrance to the front of the building will be limited to the doorway closest to the parking lot. The change will also impact the location of ticket sales, which have been moved to the front doorway closest to the parking lot.
