Brett Gardner does not need to be told that this is an important year for his career.
After missing all but 16 games last season after suffering an elbow injury, the former Holly Hill Academy star turned New York Yankees outfielder is aware that he needs to put together a good season.
“I’m not going to try and play it down, but you say that every year, going in,” Gardner said in a story that appeared in the New York Daily News. “I didn’t really get to play much last year, so I’m dying to get out there and compete.”
Gardner appears to be healthy heading into spring training. And, thus far, the biggest talk out of Yankees camp seems to be whether the 29-year-old — who has hit .266 over his six-year career — will play center or left for the Yankees.
For the time being, according to Yankees manager Joe Girardi, Gardner will play in left with Curtis Granderson in center.
