The late afternoon sunshine was apparently not enough to dry up the effects of earlier rainfall Friday at Mirmow Field.

With an unsafe playoff surface, American Legion postponed the Game 2 of the best-of-five series between Orangeburg Post 4 and Greenwood Post 20. The two teams will try to make up the game at 7:30 p.m. tonight with the Braves holding a 1-0 lead after Thursday’s 6-3 win over Post 4 at John Nave Stadium.

If weather and field conditions prevent play Saturday, Orangeburg head coach Frank Leysath flirted with the possibility of a doubleheader taking place on the next available date. Should Game 2 take place tonight, Game 3 is set for 7:30 p.m. in Greenwood with Game 4, if necessary, back in Orangeburg.

All current American Legion games have to be completed by Wednesday with the start of the American Legion state tournament Friday in Sumter. The winner will face one of the three teams remaining from the Lower State matchups involving Beaufort vs. Florence, Murrell’s Inlet vs. Goose Creek and Hilton Head vs. Sumter. The remaining Upper State brackets has Inman vs. West Columbia, Irmo-Chapin vs. Spartanburg and Lancaster vs. the Greenville Generals.
