COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina has added two staff members to the baseball program as announced by head coach Chad Holbrook on Monday.

Tyson Lusk has been hired as the new director of baseball operations and former Gamecock infielder Adrian Morales will return to Columbia to serve as student assistant coach for the 2013-14 season.

“We are ecstatic to welcome back Adrian and to have Tyson here as part of our staff,” said head coach Chad Holbrook. “Adrian was a very special player for us and part of two national championship teams. Not only was he a special player, but a great leader and winner as well. He is going to be a terrific coach.”

Morales played in 136 games with 127 starts in a two-year career with the Garnet & Black and was a member of the 2010 and 2011 national championship teams. Morales returns to Columbia after playing for the Kansas City Royals organization for the past two and a half seasons. He will be working toward completion of his degree in criminal justice.

Lusk comes to Columbia after four years as clubhouse/equipment manager with the University of North Carolina as well as eight seasons with the baseball program. Before entering his role as equipment manager, Lusk was the head student manager for UNC from August 2005-June 2009. He graduated in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. While with the Tar Heels program, Lusk worked with six College World Series teams and eight NCAA Tournament squads.

“I’ve known Tyson for the last eight years,” Holbrook said. “He is a tireless worker and a very organized person. He is also a winner having been a part of six College World Series teams in the last eight years. We are thrilled he wanted to be a part of our baseball program and he will be a great addition to our staff.”
