During its ninth spring football workout Thursday morning, South Carolina State continued to conduct team-style type drills during a lively and enthusiastic session, according to head coach Buddy Pough.
“We are making progress,” said Pough. “Our players are working hard on both sides of the football. Like typical spring ball, the defense has a little bit of an edge at this time.
“Also, we are getting a few players banged up,” he continued. “But that, too, is kind of usual in spring ball. We are getting a little thin at some positions which limits some of the things we can do as a team and the unity we are working hard to establish.”
Pough added, however, that a number of players had indicated they have developed sufficiently to the point that they will be able to help the Bulldogs this fall.
During the session, the Bulldogs also prepped for their Saturday scrimmage, which gets underway at 1 p.m. at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.
SC State, which has just six spring workout dates left -- including the Saturday scrimmage -- will play a 12-game schedule in 2013. The Bulldogs open the campaign Aug. 31 when Pough’s team hosts Coastal Carolina.
