A 38-year-old woman is accused of hitting her boyfriend’s head six times with a hammer.

Rebecca Lee Dorsey has been charged with attempted murder.

Orangeburg County deputies arrived at the Maedrine Street home she shared with her 58-year-old boyfriend just before 3 a.m. Thursday.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered Dorsey’s boyfriend sitting on the steps of a neighbor’s house. He was wrapped in a blanket.

He had “severe lacerations and puncture wounds” to the head area, an incident report states.

A deputy noted there was a “large amount of blood coming from the head area.”

The boyfriend told deputies that Dorsey was watching television at 1:15 a.m. when he asked her to come to bed because she had to be at work at 4:30 a.m.

He said that while he was talking to her, she grabbed the hammer and repeatedly assaulted him.

Dorsey told deputies that she and her boyfriend had been drinking alcohol and using cocaine all day, the report said. She said her boyfriend became upset because she used the last of their cocaine that was in a $10 bill.

She said that when her boyfriend attempted to slap her, she grabbed the hammer and hit him six times with the hammer, the report said.

When deputies conducted a protective sweep of the residence, two deputies observed a pool of blood on the floor and a hammer on the couch.

Orangeburg County EMS transported her boyfriend to the Regional Medical Center for severe injuries to his head.

Dorsey appeared before an Orangeburg County magistrate, but the magistrate did not set a bond.

This incident remains under investigation.
