DENMARK -- Voorhees College will hold its fourth annual UNCF Corporate and Community Luncheon at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18, in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center.
The purpose of the UNCF Corporate and Community luncheon is to bring corporate and community leaders in Bamberg County and the surrounding areas together in providing scholarship support to students at Voorhees College and to highlight past scholarship recipients in an effort to showcase the benefits of giving.
During the luncheon, current and previous scholarship recipients will be recognized. Some recipients will give testimonials on how Voorhees changed their lives and why their scholarships matter.
The emcee for this year’s luncheon will be Von Gaskin, meteorologist at WIS-TV in Columbia. Gaskin has an extensive background in tropical forecasting, severe weather tracking and radar interpretation.
She has been on the WIS meteorologist team for seven years. Prior to WIS-TV, she worked at WNCT-TV in Greenville, North Carolina; WWAY-TV in Wilmington, North Carolina and WPDE-TV in Myrtle Beach.
Gaskin earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from the University of South Carolina and a master’s degree in geo-sciences from Mississippi State University. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and she and her husband, Anthony, have three sons, Emmanuel, Shamar and Marsalis.
Donations can still be made to support the luncheon by contacting Dr. Teesa Brunson, development officer for major and planned gifts, at 803-780-1194 or email@example.com.
