DENMARK -- Voorhees College alum Jerome Geathers and his wife Carnella have been selected to be the 2017 grand marshals for this year’s Homecoming parade.
The Homecoming parade will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 on Maple Street in downtown Denmark.
Geathers, a 1972 graduate of Voorhees College, earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting.
He offers the $5,000 Jerome Geathers Scholarship annually to students.
He is an active member of the Voorhees Central Carolina Alumni Chapter as part of his efforts to give back and make a difference at his alma mater. Additionally, he is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
“I am excited to be this year’s grand marshal along with my wife. As an alum, I want to represent Voorhees in a manner that highlights the opportunities I received. It is about doing for others what people have done for you,” Geathers said.
Geathers is the owner of three stores inside of the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
Geathers operates a newly remolded Queen City News and Gift Shop that has been operating since April 1994; MAC Cosmetics, which opened in February 2016 in partnership with Estee Lauder Companies Inc. and the DFASS Group, and his newest addition, a duty-free store, which opened at the end of September 2017.
These companies are operated under Geathers Enterprises Inc.
His awards and recognitions include the Secretary of Labor Distinguished Career Service Award and the Regional Excellence Award. He is a 15-time recipient of the Secretary of Labor Exceptional Achievement Award and a 12-time Secretary of Labor Outstanding Performance Award recipient. In addition, Geathers was a 2007 inductee into the Voorhees College Hall of Fame and the 2014 honoree of the Voorhees College Keeper of the Flame.
Carnella Geathers is the vice president of Geathers Enterprises Inc. and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
In March 2017, the Geathers established “The Jerome Geathers and Family” endowed scholarship in the amount of $100,000 at Voorhees College.
The Geathers have one son, Brian, one daughter, Rachel, and two granddaughters: Ava and Zuri.
