An employee of DAK Americas reported Jan. 1 that a vehicle had crashed into a fence at the plant and struck a large crane on the property.

According to the incident report, the car that wrecked, which is registered to a Duke Avenue resident in Columbia, was unoccupied when it was discovered by the DAK Americas employee and there was no one in the area.

Damage is estimated at $6,000, the report states.

In other reports:

  • A resident of Valley Ridge Road reported Dec. 30 that a home belonging to his daughter on Columbia Road near Swansea had been entered and some items were stolen.

The door lock of the residence was broken, and a bullet reload press was missing from the home, the report states. In addition, two antique gas pumps were reported missing from an out-building on the property.

The complainant told deputies his daughter’s stepson had previously broken into the home and taken things.

The stolen items are worth $2,500, the report states.

  • A resident of Mount Moriah Road near Swansea reported Dec. 24 that someone had cut the line to her large propane tank and attempted to remove it.

Damages were estimated at $100.
