The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office took a Santee man and 780 chocolate bars into custody last week.
Lewis Milton Weatherford Jr., 46, of 139 Purina Lane, has been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and vandalism.
He was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after a Bonner Avenue property owner called the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.
The property owner reported a man was tearing apart his camper and loading items into a 2000 white Ford F250 four-door truck.
The owner of the Ford reported it stolen on Feb. 4 from a Five Chop Road property, according to a sheriff’s office incident report.
Deputies also collected 780 Cruz chocolate candy bars that were in the backseat of the truck.
They placed the candy bars into evidence for safekeeping.
The damage to the camper is estimated at $3,000.
Weatherford appeared before an Orangeburg County magistrate who set his bond at $5,000 for possession of a stolen vehicle.
Weatherford is currently on probation after pleading guilty in August 2017 to possession of cocaine. His probation is set to expire Feb. 27, 2019.
On Feb. 2, law enforcement arrested and charged him with possession of a scheduled substance. That charge is still pending.
