Someone burglarized Andrae & Co. jewelers in downtown Orangeburg on Wednesday morning and Orangeburg Department of Public Safety officers are seeking a man for questioning.

Det. Danny Brightwell provided surveillance photos captured from city cameras at the 1100 block of Russell Street which show a black male standing about six feet tall and weighing approximately 160 pounds.

The male was wearing a light-colored hoodie and what seemed to be blue jeans.

The incident report states that the man stopped in front of the camera to put a mask around his face and walk toward Andrae & Co., located at 1135 Russell Street.

“The Orangeburg Department of Public Safety is asking for assistance identifying the person in these photographs,” Brightwell said. “We would appreciate any information you have.”

According to an incident report, the surveillance cameras at Andrae’s recorded a burglary there between 3:45 a.m. and 4:10 a.m.

At 6:14 a.m., an ODPS officer patrolled the 1100 block of Russell Street and noticed a shattered window at Andrae’s.

Upon closer inspection, the burglar apparently used a cinder block to shatter the window glass and two jewelry cases.

Officers also found a hammer in front of the business.

The business owner determined that about $15,000 in gold chains were missing and estimated the damage at $5,000.

Anyone who has information about the man is asked to call Brightwell at 803-533-4106 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. All callers will remain anonymous.
