Two women with local ties died when their car crashed into a flooded ditch and they drowned.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick said both women died Thursday sometime between 10:30 and 11:30 p.m. in about three feet of water.

They were in the overturned vehicle and drowned by the time firefighters arrived at the scene, Hendrick said.

Shykimia Lashaye Holman, 27, and Brianna Michelle Johnson, 21, both originally from Orangeburg, died, Hendrick said.

S.C. Highway Patrol Cpl. Sonny Collins reported that the 2011 Honda four-door was traveling west on Highway 22 when the driver swerved left, overcorrected and then ran off the roadway and overturned.

Both the driver and passenger were killed.
