The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a suspect in a Thursday afternoon shooting incident that left one person injured.

Deputies responded at around 2 p.m. to a call on the 300 block of Jamison Avenue.

OCSO spokesman Richard Walker said a man is undergoing treatment for a minor gunshot wound to his lower leg.

“A suspect is actively being sought in this shooting incident,” he said.

Both public safety departments of S.C. State University and Claflin University issued messages to students and staff around 2:15 p.m. They advised their campus communities to avoid Jamison Avenue due to a shooting.

Howard Middle School, located just over a block from the shooting scene, was temporarily placed on lockdown.

Orangeburg Consolidated School District 5 spokesman Bill Clark said officials placed the school on lockdown for a “brief period of time.”

Deputies responded to the school shortly thereafter and determined it was not facing any threat, Clark said.
