Authorities are looking for the person who shot a 28-year-old man late Sunday.

The victim is recovering from the gunshot wound.

Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 1700 block of Maxwell Place at 10:24 p.m. Additional deputies met the victim at the Regional Medical Center, where he was transported in a personal vehicle.

One of the witnesses said the victim was last seen talking with a female who was in a car in the roadway.

The witness then heard 20 shots fired. He and others dropped to the floor for cover.

The witness said the shots appeared to come from someone inside a black Chevrolet Impala.

Another witness said that after the vehicle passed by, he noticed the victim had been shot.

Two of the witnesses had bullet holes in their vehicles as a result of the shooting.

Deputies noticed small pools of blood on the grass near the front door of the residence where the shooting occurred.

A witness told deputies that the blood was from the victim.

Deputies also saw several shell casings in the roadway belonging to two different weapons.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Richard Walker says the incident remains under investigation and a search for a suspect is underway.

If anyone has any information about this case, they are asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 803-534-3550 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
