People have been giving Wednesday’s trifecta of 12s a lot of thought.

12-12-12 — just like 10-10-10 or 11-11-11, when thousands insisted on getting married to avoid putting too much thought into remembering their anniversaries — is the last chance for nuptials on a “consecutive number sequence date” this century.

There are those who don’t think we’ll make it past Wednesday, however, due to some cataclysmic event, including a prediction of the biblical Rapture. But in the event that we are all still here on Thursday, we still have to contend with the end of the Mayan calendar on 12-21-12.

While many in the world are worried about what Wednesday will bring, one little boy in Alabama is probably not.

Kiam Moriya of Birmingham is instead more likely excited about his pending birthday: He will turn 12 years old on 12-12-12, at 12:12 p.m. To celebrate, Moriya has requested Krispy Kreme doughnuts arranged in a figure “12.”

According to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Moriya is likely not alone. The CDC reports that some 4 million babies were born in the U.S. in 2000. On average, that would come to nearly 11,000 babies a day, or approximately eight per minute.

Also celebrating Dec. 12 birthdays are former “The Price is Right” host Bob Barker, who will be 89; singers Connie Francis, 75, and Dionne Warwick, 72; Allman Brothers singer-guitarist Dickey Betts, 69; and actresses Jennifer Connelly, 42, and Mayim Bialik, 37.

Here are some more 12-12-12 tidbits, courtesy of various web sites:

n The folks with RITA (Rapture In The Air) Now are still trying to pinpoint an exact date for Jesus’ return to Earth. At least one contributor, Patti C., writes that 12-12-12 is her pick because the number 12 is a “perfect” number, citing its use in the zodiac, divisions of time, etc., and the fact that it is comprised of the numbers 3, the “heavenly” number, and 4, the “earthly” number.

n The Global Day of Worship is set for 12-12-12. It’s set to be a “unified, global worship movement to see the name of Jesus Christ lifted up throughout the earth.” The hope is to unify the many Christian denominations “while embracing and celebrating the differences in our expressions of love for Jesus Christ. Through a unified celebration and adoration of the name of Jesus, the world will see that we are His disciples.” Christians are invited to worship collectively or individually, and the website, globaldayofworship.com, will stream live worship venues from each of the 24 world times zones for one hour in each zone, starting at the International Dateline.

n Twelve is a “highly respected and practical number” in mathematics and other spheres of life, and there are 12 astrological and Chinese zodiac signs, 12 months of the year, 12 hours in the morning and 12 in the evening, 12 deities on Mount Olympus, 12 Stations of Life in Buddhism, 12 tribes of Israel and 12 disciples of Jesus Christ.

As humanreligions.info points out, “When you see the number twelve, watch out.”

This is just a taste of what’s out there. Perform an online search of 12-12-12, and you’re sure to find more than enough information to keep you entertained and thinking — despite what today may bring.
