The Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Foundation received a gift from the South Carolina Association of Meat Processors Inc. in honor of the late Harold Lee of Lee’s Sausage to be used toward the animal science program. Mrs. Wynona Lee presented the check to Dr. Walt Tobin, president of OCtech, surrounded by friends, faculty and students.

Friends of the late Mr. Lee present were Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Tyler, owners of The Butcher Shop in Columbia; Dan Bozard, president of Dillon Provision Company Inc.; Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Caughman, owners of Caughman’s Meat in Lexington and Bo Smith.

The group stressed the importance of education and earning a degree and explained to the students that they are about to enter a good industry with hard-working people who stand by their word. They also spoke about the importance of the animal science and sustainable agriculture professions and their endless opportunities thanks to the growing population that must be fed.

Tyler recalled that Lee was a “great competitor and an even better friend to all of them.”
