A Colleton County juvenile was reunited with his parents Wednesday morning after the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety posted a request for help on social media.

“Someone ID’d his picture that knew the family and contacted them,” Victims Advocate Karen Sanders said.

ODPS learned about the juvenile when a concerned citizen contacted the agency just before 7 a.m.

Officers brought the juvenile to ODPS headquarters for safety.

The juvenile and his parents were staying in Orangeburg after evacuating from Colleton County due to Hurricane Irma.

ODPS posted the juvenile’s photo on its Facebook page. Facebook users shared the photo more than 90 times and it garnered about 1,500 views.

“Within an hour we were able to make contact with his parents,” Sanders said.
