Mrs. Ruth Henry Lightsey, 84, of 1000 Live Oak Drive, Orangeburg, died Tuesday at The Regional Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at The Methodist Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ernest Heape officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Fairfax Cemetery, with the Rev. Joseph Alley officiating.
Mrs. Lightsey was born in Pendleton, a daughter of the late Rev. Shala Walter Henry and Amanda Wolfe Henry. She earned a bachelor's degree from Columbia College and a master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was the Registrar and Director of Administrations at Columbia College for 20 years until retirement in 1973. She was honored by the college in 1983 by being awarded the College Medallion. She was a member of College Place Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, former trustee, and an administrative board member. She was also a member of the Fellowship Class, Winn-McGill Circle, King's Daughters and the Columbia College Alumnae Afternoon Club. Mrs. Lightsey was the widow of Jack T. Lightsey.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Henry Lightsey of Fairfax, Va. and Martin Frederick Lightsey of Staunton, Va.; a brother, S. Walter Henry of Orangeburg; two sisters, Mrs. J.Q. (Freddie) Schisler of Orangeburg and Mrs. T.C. (Annie) Bruce of Columbia; and four grandchildren.
Friends may call at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home in Orangeburg.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Columbia College, College Place Methodist Church or The Methodist Home.
