NORTH CHARLESTON -- Russell LaGrande Huggins entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at his home in North Charleston.
He was born in Charleston on April 23, 1934, to the late Hampton Russell Huggins and Anna Bell Mosley. He was a retired Air Force TSgt with 23 years of service and a veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. To many he was known as “Coach” for his years as a Dixie Youth baseball and Pee Wee football coach at Goodwin playground in North Charleston where he also served as baseball commissioner. In recent years he was best known for his 1965 Mustang that he proudly displayed at local car shows as a member of the Low Country Mustang Club. He graduated high school Gamma Epsilon Delta (GED) and was a member of Wando Woods Baptist Church.
He is survived by his son, Russell “Rocky” LaGrande Huggins Jr. (Robin); granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Huggins; and grandson, Joshua Lambert Huggins, all of North Charleston.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Elizabeth Huggins.
Visitation with the family and a memorial service will take place on Friday, March 9, from 10 a.m. to noon at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406.
