Preston Hughes Gray, 81, of Chapin, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Agape Hospice House in Columbia.
Born on March 1, 1932, in Fayetteville, N.C., he was the son of Frank and Ludie Mae Gray. He attended Edwards Military Institute in Salemburg, N.C.
Soon after marrying, Preston moved his young family to Orangeburg. He became a successful business man, owning a series of restaurants and retail stores before retiring to his home on Lake Murray. He was proud to see each of his children graduate from college.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Margaret “Marge” Gray; a son, Dr. John P. (Karen) Gray of Lufkin, Texas; daughters Donna L. Gray of Harrisburg, N.C., and Susan G. Eades of Seneca: and six grandchildren, Jordan, Jonathan and Katie Gray of Texas, and Megan, Austin and Anna Eades of South Carolina. He is also survived by brothers Kelly Gray of Michigan and Sammy C. Gray of South Carolina, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family has planned a private memorial service.
