Funeral services for Mr. James Quattlebaum of 16 Constitution Lane, Cameron, will be held at noon on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Brown Chapel AME Church, Cameron, with the Rev. Rufus Gaymon officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
The casket will be placed in the church at 11 a.m.
James A. Quattlebaum of Cameron, the son of the late Victoria Quattlebaum Parler and the late James T. Haigler, was born on Jan. 1, 1936, in Calhoun County. He entered into rest on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at home. He attended St. John School in Cameron. He drove trucks for Hicklin Motor Line in St. Matthews. Later in life, he moved to Sharon, Penn., where he worked at Sawhill Steel Mill in Wheatland, Penn., for 32 years before his retirement in 1998, at which time he returned to Cameron. He rejoined Brown Chapel AME Church, where he worked faithfully as a Senior Steward, Senior Choir President, member of Sons of Allen and Class Leader. He was a faithful participant of the church weekly Bible study and church school. A sister, Carrie Quattlebaum Bookhart, preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his loving wife Christine Jenkins Quattlebaum of Cameron; two daughters, Dorothy (Keith) Pettigrew of Riverview, Fla., and Willia Dean Bradley of Elloree; three sons, Armand Quattlebaum of Fredericksburg, Va., Shawn Quattlebaum of Sumter, and Kelvin Quattlebaum of San Diego; a sister, Helen P. Smith of Martinsville, Va.; four grandsons, Terrell Bradley, Michael C. Wade Jr., Randall Quattlebaum and Jordan Pettigrew; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, at Jenkins Funeral Home of Cameron.
