BAMBERG -- The funeral for Minnie Mae Ransom, 88, of 439 North St., Bamberg will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Union Baptist Church in Bamberg. The burial will be held in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Ransom died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at tRMC in Orangeburg.
She was born to the late Deacon John Dowling and the late O' Keller Smith Dowling in Bamberg. At an early age, she joined Eden Baptist Church in Bamberg, where she served as "Mother of the Church," a member of the Eden Missionary Society and sang on the gospel choir. She was also a former member of Bethlehem Chapter No. 50 order of Eastern Star. Minnie attended the public schools in Bamberg County, Mather School in Beaufort, Voorhees College and Denmark Technical College. Minnie was a seamstress, cosmetologist and a teacher's aide at Richard Carroll Middle School. Minnie was instrumental in forming The Sincere Gospel Singers, a group that traveled to spread God's word for over 40 years. On Feb. 28, 1957, Minnie married the late McKinley Ransom and to this union they were blessed with four children.
Survivors include three sons, McKinley Jr. (Paulette) and George (Christine), both of Orangeburg, and Lee Anthony (Angela) of Bamberg; a daughter, O' Keller Lynn of Bamberg; two sisters, Odessa Caldwell (Marshall) of Staten Island, New York, and Ivory Lee Kirkland of Brooklyn, New York; a brother, Marion Dowling of Bamberg; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a goddaughter; and a special caretaker and friend, Mrs. Shirley Raysor.
Immediately following the burial, the family will greet friends in the church fellowship hall for the repast.
The Carroll Mortuary of Bamberg will be in charge of the services.
