ORANGEBURG – The funeral services for Mattie “Nikki” Stokes Tyler, 49, of 128 Coconut Court, Orangeburg, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at Capernaum Baptist Church, Denmark. The burial will follow in the old church cemetery.
She died Friday, Jan. 5, at her home.
She was born July 18, 1968, to Rogers Johnson and Redell Stokes. Known as “Nikki” to her many family members and friends, she was a graduate of Denmark-Olar, class of 1986. Mattie was a dedicated member of Capernaum Baptist Church, where she sang on the Inspirational Choir. Surviving are two daughters, Courtney (Hermaine) Saunders of Denmark and Ashley Tyler of Detroit; four sons, Staff Sgt. Ghovanti (Lisa Lin) Tyler (USAF) of London, England, and Tobias, Justin and Matthew Tyler of the home; four sisters, Allison S. Kirkland, Wanda (Jermaine) Downing and Valerie (Terrance) Odom, all of Denmark, and Janette A. Fox of New York; her parents, Rogers Johnson and Redell Stokes; a brother, Rogers Johnson Jr. of Columbia; two grandchildren, McKayla and Prince Tyler; her fiancé, Ezekiel Washington; and three grandaunts, Rutha Mae Mack, Earth Glover and Mattie R Richburg, who was also her godmother.
The Denmark Chapel of Carroll Mortuary will be in charge of the services.
