Mrs. Lillie B. Ellis Holmes, 76, of 192 Quincy Road, Bowman, widow of James Holmes, entered eternal rest on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at the Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg, after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Ling Funeral Home Chapel, 903 Dukes St., St. George. Interment will be in Frederick Douglass Memorial Park, Staten Island, N.Y.
Mrs. Holmes was born Oct. 12, 1936, in Holly Hill, a daughter of the late Dan Ellis and Hattie Cummings Ellis. She was joined in holy matrimony with James Holmes. Her husband James and son Richard Lee preceded her in death. Lillie retired from New York City Postal Service after dedicating 35 years of honorable service to the United States government. Lillie left New York and returned to South Carolina for the remainder of her life.
Surviving are a son, Desalle (Elaine) Holmes of Mose Lake, Wash.; two daughters, Valinda Holmes of New York and Diana Holmes of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five grandchildren; three sisters, Nancy Ellis and Louvenia Fogle, both of Bowman, and Hattie Mae Allen of Orangeburg; a brother, Jerome Ellis of Bowman; an adopted brother, John Dash of Orangeburg; and a sister-in-law, Lavern Ellis of Bowman. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
