HARLEYVILLE -- Jim Monroe “Whitey” Marchant, 93, of Harleyville, husband of Betty Marchant, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at Trident Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, at the Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Rawls Mitchell, Mike Bowers and Joe Marchant officiating.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Mathis, Gibran Ameer, Matthew Moore, Mark Moore, Travis Marchant, Bill Murphy, Timmy Murphy, Chad Brunson, Randy Brunson, Warren Brunson, George Brunson, Bubba Marchant and Steve Marchant.
Burial with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy will follow in the St. George Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday evening at Bryant Funeral Home.
Whitey was born on January 24, 1924, in Harleyville, a son of Joe Albert and Mary Adkins Marchant. He was a WWII veteran, farmer and a welder. He was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church. He had a great sense of humor and was loved by those who knew him. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was predeceased by siblings Leonard Marchant, Richard Marchant, Clinton Marchant, John W. (Blackie) Marchant, Martha Jean Foster and Ellen Walters.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Brunson Marchant, Harleyville; three sons, Ted M. (Enoree) Marchant, Swansea, Ray (Libby) Marchant, Bamberg, and Ronnie Marchant, Charlotte, North Carolina; a daughter, Debbie (Charlie) Brickle, St. George; grandchildren, Travis (Lacey) Marchant, Amy (Glenn) Mathis, Kimberly (Gibran) Ameer; great-grandchildren, Carson Marchant and Kennedy Ameer; brothers, the Rev. Joe Marchant and Herman (Diane) Marchant; sisters, Thelma Pitts, Margaret Thompson, all of Charleston, Josephine (Curt) Funderburk, Columbia, Fairey (Paul) O'Cain, Santee, Rhetta Mae Adams, Spartanburg.
