A Reflection of Life
Mrs. Alma Brunson Irving, or “Ms. Dookie,” as she was known by those who loved her dearly, was born to the late Carrie Irick Brunson and the late William Brunson on February 26, 1927. On the afternoon of Tuesday, January 9, 2018, an Angel of Silence came to her and with a heavenly finger sealed the lips of a loving mother. Her soul winged its flight from this world of sin and pain to a place of eternal life.
She attended the public school of Lone Star. She worked various jobs as a domestic engineer until her retirement. She attended Haynes Chapel AME faithfully until her health declined.
She was united in Holy Wedlock to the late Mr. Johnny Irving and to this union 11 children were born. Two preceded her in death: Bro. Richard Irving and Sis. Ella Irving Guinyard.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories forever three daughters, Carrie (EJ) Glover of St. Matthews, Mary (Gary) Moody of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Sarah (Myron) Irving Washington of Neeses; six sons, Johnny Irving of Fort Motte, Arthur (Gertie) Irving and Archie (Donna J.) Irving of Columbia, Robert (Tresslyn) Irving of Cameron, Michael (Annette) Irving of Blackville, and John Sander Irving of the home; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 68 great-great-grandchildren; five special friends, Ms. Virginia Riley, Mrs. Blondell Guinyard, Ms. Hiyatt Ulmer, Ms. Girdie Legree and Ms. Gertie Mae Jackson; one special daughter, Ms. Shirley Shirer; one special adopted son, Mr. Howard Dunning; caregiver, Ms. Susie Irving; one special son-in-law, Mr. John L. Plush; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss her dearly.
Viewing will be held 3-7 Saturday at Jenkins Funeral Services of St. Matthews.
