Johnson joins

recruiting staff

Army Staff Sgt. Octavius T. Johnson recently joined the U.S. Army Indianapolis Recruiting Battalion’s Fort Wayne Recruiting Company as a detailed recruiter for the Fort Wayne North Recruiting Center, Fort Wayne, Ind.

Johnson comes to the Fort Wayne North Center from Fort Bliss, Texas, where he had been serving with the 1st/43rd Air Defense Artillery Battalion since 2016 as a platoon sergeant. He has also served as a shop foreman and team leader with the 626th Base Support Battalion, Fort Campbell, Ky., which included deployments to Afghanistan.

Johnson’s military awards include three Army Commendation Medals, seven Army Achievement Medals, three Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Air Assault Badge, the Driver and Mechanic Badge, the Marksmanship Qualification Badge: Expert, and the Recruiter Badge.

A native of Orangeburg, Johnson graduated from Calhoun County High School in St. Matthews in 2008.
