A Columbia man said someone in a pickup truck stole his prize-winning hunting dog while he was visiting Branchville on Saturday.

The dog owner called deputies at 5:11 p.m. to report that he saw someone pick up his dog near Freedom Road. The dog was wearing a GPS tracking collar.

Someone from a dog shelter called the owner to report that they had his dog. The dog wasn’t wearing the $500 tracking collar.

The owner told deputies his dog is valued at $5,000.

In a separate incident, an Estate Street man said three suspects stole his utility trailer around 3 a.m. Sunday.

He has surveillance video of the theft. He said it appears one of the suspects has a prosthetic leg.

The black trailer is about 6 feet wide and 12 feet long. It has a non-functioning tail light and the hitch will not lock.

It is valued at $3,500.
