SANTEE -- The inaugural corn and soybean growers meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 7.

The meeting will be held at the Santee Conference Center on 1737 Bass Drive/U.S. 15.

The program will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m. and conclude with the drawing of the grand door prize at 3:30 p.m.

Individuals must be present to win.

A sponsored lunch will be provided. Trade show booths will open at 8:30 a.m.

Topics will include:

* Knowing a good stand and proper planter setup. B&M Crop Consulting crop consultant Missy Bauer, who acts as the Farm Journal associate field agronomist and coordinates the Farm Journal test plots in the eastern Corn Belt.

* Corn and soybean futures update. Founder of Palmetto Grain Brokerage Edgar Woods, who founded PGB in 1985 with a mission to help agricultural producers increase revenues.

* Improving soybean yields. Associate professor of Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences Department at Virginia Tech Dr. David Holshouser. His research focus is on intensively managed soybean cropping systems, cover crops and pest management issues.

* Herbicide technology discussion panel. Future of Xtend/Enlist Technologies. The panel will include representatives from the Clemson University Department of Pesticide Regulation, Clemson Extension, and industry representatives from both Monsanto and Dow.

The meeting is sponsored by Clemson Extension, the S.C. Soybean Board, the S.C. Department of Agriculture and S.C. Farm Bureau.
