DENMARK - The Voorhees College Class of 2011 will receive words of inspiration from a federal education official during the commencement convocation.
Federal Student Aid Senior Advisor Dr. Lenny F. Springs II will deliver the commencement address at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center.
Springs joined President Barack Obama's administration in November 2009. He works with the Education Department and Financial Student Aid leadership to provide support to traditionally under-resourced colleges and universities, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities, members of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities and organizations devoted to helping schools transition successfully to the Direct Loan Program.
Additionally, he served as former president and CEO of The S-Group Inc., an organizational development and a strategic management firm in Charlotte, N.C. Springs previously served as senior vice president, director of supplier diversity and vice president of community relations for Wachovia Corporation.
He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Voorhees College and was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Voorhees College.
He is affiliated with various organizations including the Charlotte chapter of 100 Black Men of America, where he was a founding president for the chapter. Springs also served as vice chairman of the Voorhees College board of trustees.
