Schools Orangeburg Consolidated School Districts Three, Four and Five will be closed all day on Wednesday, Oct. 5 through Friday, Oct. 7 the order of S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley. Bamberg and Calhoun county public schools have also confirmed they’ll be closed.
Denmark Technical College will be closing the school effective at 5 p.m. this afternoon and will reopen Monday, Oct. 10. Evening classes are cancelled for today, Oct. 4 until Monday, October 10.
All OCAB Head Start Centers in Orangeburg, Calhoun, Allendale and Bamberg counties will be closed Wednesday through Friday due to impending weather conditions.
Claflin University will be closed for the rest of the week beginning Wednesday, Oct. 5. All classes and activities are cancelled and will resume on Monday, Oct. 10.
South Carolina State University is also closed through Saturday, including sports. The South Carolina State versus Bethune-Cookman football game previously scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8 will be postponed.
These actions have been ordered to facilitate the evacuation of coastal residents to inland shelters at school facilities in Orangeburg County and across the State.
Due to the anticipated traffic issues associated with lane reversals on I-26 and heavy traffic volume on secondary evacuation routes, all district employees are excused from reporting to work on these dates unless they receive specific instructions otherwise.
All afterschool activities and athletic events scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are cancelled. Information about rescheduling of athletic events will be announced at a future date.
