ELLOREE Once again the call of the bugle and thundering horses' hooves will echo across eastern Orangeburg County as the Elloree Trials get under way for the 43rd year on Saturday, March 26.
According to Franklin Gregory "Goree" Smith, owner of the Elloree Training Center where the event is held, the purpose of the Elloree Trials is to build a racing program and promote the family aspect of horsemanship and agriculture.
The Elloree Trials will be presented by the Palmetto Jockey Club and the Elloree Trials Committee. South Carolina Bank and Trust is the sponsor.
"Although it's occurring during Easter weekend, we still expect to have a great time," Smith said this week. "Everything looks fine."
Aside from the horse racing, there will be skydivers, dog sports and beauty and hat contests.
