Police arrested a 33-year-old Rock Hill man on Feb. 20 for possession of crack cocaine, driving under the influence, open container and failure to stop for blue lights.

He was originally stopped for driving 50 in a 35 mph zone on U.S. 78. When signaled to pull over by police, he continued driving to a Bridge Street residence before stopping, according to the incident report.

Officers placed him under arrest after they observed an open container in the vehicle and because of his initial failure to stop, the report states. During a search of the vehicle, police located an open container of alcohol, several beers and a bottle containing three pills and a white substance, the report notes.

According to the incident report, the man could not successfully complete a sobriety test and while being booked, made numerous threatening comments to officers. The white powder later tested positive for cocaine and a warrant was sought for failure to comply, the report states.

Two people in a vehicle with a Florida license plate were arrested at a public safety checkpoint on U.S. 78 on Feb. 18. After the driver stopped the car short of the checkpoint, officers noticed movement inside the vehicle. When the car reached the checkpoint, police detected a strong odor of marijuana and questioned the driver about it, the report states.

While searching the vehicle, officers located a bag containing 10 to 12 packs of cigar wraps, some “shake” (marijuana dust) and marijuana. While her ID card was being checked, the driver, a 28-year-old from Newark, New Jersey, blurted out an expletive and was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct.

Charges against her included possession of drug paraphernalia, giving false information to police and use of another’s ID. Dispatch informed officers that she was also wanted by law enforcement in New York.

The passenger, a 38-year-old Williston woman, was charged with hindering officers.

Police arrested a 22-year-old Branchville man who was found passed out in the cab of a truck with empty beer cans inside. Someone called police after noticing a suspicious vehicle behind a home on Heritage Highway about 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 21, the report states. Police woke up the man in the truck and arrested him for disorderly conduct.

Police were alerted to a fight between a man and a woman in the road on U.S. 301 near EZ Shop #1 about 9 p.m. on Feb. 19. Both individuals involved were placed under arrest. The 24-year-old Hartsville man was charged with fighting, and the 46-year-old Society Hill woman was charged with open container and fighting.

An 18-year-old Denmark man was charged with simple possession of marijuana on Feb. 16 after being stopped on U.S. 78 for not wearing his seat belt.
