DENMARK -- One of the highlights of the Denmark Dogwood Festival this year was the Fresh Air Art Show, which opened with a reception on Friday, April 6 and will run through April 23.

The show can be viewed at Jim Harrison Gallery on Carolina Highway/U.S. 321 in downtown Denmark.

The winners in the show are as follows: Best of Show - Jim Stratton, “Brookgreen Beauties;" first place painting - Celeste Malinowski, “Angel Oak Secrets;" first place photography - Zaire McPhearson; second place painting - Ron Buttler, “Hitchcock Woods - After the Cut;" second place photography, Zaire McPhearson; third place painting - Stan Busch, “Palmetto Trees Watching;" third Place photography - D.S. Owens, “Yesterday’s Blender;" honorable mention photography - Stan Busch, “Saudi Tea Party;" first place student painting/drawing - Javonta Hughes, “Traveler;" first place student photography - Shaniya Broxton, “Pretty Flowers;" second place student painting/drawing 0 Jessie Collins, “Hidden Beauty;" second place student photography - Shaniya Broxton, “Jumping for Joy;" third place student painting/drawing - Jessie Collins, “Camellias;" third place student photography - Bellrica Williams, “Clovers;" and honorable mention student photography - Justice Ivy, “Simplistic Beauty.”

The Palmetto Garden Club provided floral interpretive works for the art show as well as the Dogwood Festival Prayer Breakfast at Denmark Technical College. Entertainment was provided by MacMillan on acoustic guitar for the art show reception.

Accomplished artist and professor Raishad Jabar Glover was the juror for the art show. Glover, a native of Heidelburg, Germany, attended the Governor's School for the Arts in Greenville; Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana; School of Museum for Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts and Yale University in New Haven Connecticut, earning a master’s degree in fine art. He is currently a full-time instructor of digital design at Claflin University.
