ORANGEBURG OUT OF THE PAST

Orangeburg High School Music Teachers, 1963: C. Frederic Ulmer and Pop Gentry were the legendary music teachers at Orangeburg High School for a number of years. They educated hundreds of students during their high school music careers. Mr. Ulmer, the voice teacher, was famous for the annual operetta productions the Mixed Chorus made featuring famous musicals of the day, as well as the annual Christmas Day presentations on WIS-TV. He taught at Orangeburg High School for 32 years. Mr. Gentry, as the famous band director, stimulated the musical aspirations of many band members throughout his 20 year career there. He also played in several dance bands in the community.
