ORANGEBURG OUT OF THE PAST

National Honor Society, Orangeburg High School, 1939: The charter for the first National Honor Society at Orangeburg High School was issued in 1939. Members were elected on four major characteristics: scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Here is the inaugural membership group in this photograph. First Row: Emily Wolfe, Theresa Theiling, Rosser Smith, Rose Louise Rich(later Aronson), Betty Wannamaker. Second Row: Frances Temple Fairey(later Powers), Kathryn Edgerton, secretary, Omega Pace(later Clinge), Jeannette Dukes, Laura Dwight. Third Row: LaVerne(Red) Brewington, president, T.B. Fersner, Marion Dantzler, Zach Gramling, Joe Dukes.
