South Carolina State University Head Men's Basketball Coach Murray Garvin's first Back to School Basketball Bash on Aug. 12 at the Orangeburg City Gym turned out to be a huge success.

Garvin’s inaugural event drew record numbers of kids and parents from throughout the Orangeburg community.

The day included a variety of activities that allowed students to get active through Zumba and exercising while learning lifesaving techniques and practicing their basketball skills through fun competitions.

All of this was made possible through the coach's newly formed non-profit organization, Garvin’s Goal Foundation, which aims to make a positive impact on the youth in the community.

“This past weekend was truly special as we were able to give out over 200 backpacks with school supplies," Garvin said. "Students also received dental hygiene products, gift cards, free haircuts, and lunch and snacks were provided to conclude the day.”

He added, “We look forward to serving the youth of the Orangeburg community with future events. Stay tuned by visiting www.coachgarvinshouse.com/garvinsgoal."
